The Piano Has Been Trying to Kill Me

When I wasyounger,
I was sore afraid—
petrified of the

I lived in constant fear:

string would pop,
it ’d recoil back towards me,
and I would be decapitated.


Even now ,
I refuse to sit at an upr ight…
and I’ll only play a baby grand if the lid‘s fully
clos ed.
