Anywhere, but Here!

Print

by El Habib Louai

I want to be busy
—not like my grandfather who
died in his patriotic shoes—
I want to sell discount furniture
In a rough neighborhood in Raleigh
& when the lonely sun goes to sleep
return to my shack where I read, read,
& look at geraniums until I fall asleep

Oh, come back long walks!
Oh, come back intimate talks!
Oh, come back age!
Oh, come back faith!
At least for supper
